Ben Portsmouth: Acoustic Elvis during Elvis Week 2015 in Memphis

If you take a look at how short the nights during Elvis Week are, it was pretty early, when Elvis fans from all over the world came together at the New Daisy Theater in Beale Street, Downtown Memphis at 1 p.m. to see Elvis Tribute Artist Ben Portsmouth live on stage. Ben did an acoustic concert: just Ben, his guitar, his voice, and the tapping of his (mostly) right shoe… I already enjoyed the soundcheck, but (of course) the concert itself was much better than that!

It was only yesterday that I saw Ben Portsmouth live on stage for the first time ever. People always told me that I have to seen him, because what he does was said to be as close to Elvis as it gets. I have to say: they were totally right! Ben Portsmouth does an outstanding job, performing as Elvis! His intimate acoustic concert was even better than the show he did yesterday, performing as Elvis in the early ’70s. He talked to his audience, which made it an even greater and more intimate experience. One is for sure: if you’ve been in the Memphis area and did not go to the show, you’ve missed one of the Elvis Week highlights!

I you weren’t in the area and had no chance to come to the New Daisy Theater this afternoon, just imagine a huge stage, and Ben Portsmouth, all dressed up in black, sitting in the middle of it on a white wooden chair. He’s using not more but a guitar, his voice, and a microphon – and by doing that, he brings Elvis Presley to life! It is stunning how much Ben Portsmouth both looks and sounds like Elvis!

During the show he performed songs like In the Ghetto, Kentucky Rain, Always on my Mind, I’ve lost you, Treat me Like a Fool, Lawdy Miss Clawdy, and Viva Las Vegas. People were also able to just shout out the titles of their favorite Elvis songs and Ben then played them. In addition he also (for the first time) presented the audience two of his own songs (Forever, Time of My Life), which were very good, too! It really was a great show done by a great performer, and if you ever get the chance to see Ben Portsmouth on stage: go for it, as you won’t regret it!
