Being a great fan of filming locations I visited – apart from my The Walking Dead filming location tour south of Atlanta – some locations in the center of Atlanta, Georgia. Among them was the season 1 DVD cover location of this popular TV-series. Season 1 shows us how Rick Grimes is riding to Atlanta on horseback. So where is this place, which is not only a fantastic viewpoint to the Downtown skyline but also a true insider tip?

Searching for “Jackson Street Bridge” won’t get you very far because that’s not the name of the bridge, but only how the bridge near Jackson Street is often called. You can easily walk to that bridge from downtown and like this wouldn’t have to worry about finding a parking space. There are not exactly many of them nearby the bridge. If you went by car anyway, the address for your navigation system must be “l70 Jackson Street NE, Atlanta, GA 30312″. It is referring to the houses near the bridge. When you walk on foot it will take about 20 minutes from Downtown and you will have other beautiful skyline views. During the winter season you should visit this location in the morning or at noon because if you went there later the sun would already be behind the skyscrapers and as you might know photos shot against the sunlight wouldn’t work out well. However, using a tripod you might catch some beautiful sunsets there.

Atlanta is a great city but nevertheless here’s one advice: When you walk to the location please avoid (especially if you’re female) those areas in the East of Downtown when it’s dark. Well, especially when it’s dark but actually also during daytime. I must advise you against walking on Piedmont Avenue NE or Northern direction through Central Park Place because both will lead you directly to the skid row. In case you strand there anyway: avoid eye contact, don’t let yourself be accosted by anyone, and if it happens, do never answer in English, and quickly make your way to one of the main streets (Peachtree Street NE, for example). As the South of Atlanta is considered rather dangerous when it’s dark, I would avoid the streets in the East of Atlanta which lead you farer to the South. Maybe all this sounds worse than it really is because during all this time I’ve spent in Atlanta already I only had to experience three moments (in the skid row) which made me feel uncomfortable. But anyway: just be careful!
